The Lakeside Community Center is located on picturesque Lindo Lake. The center provides services to all age groups, offering both a pre-school curriculum and many senior activities. Lakeside offers some of the most convenient access to outdoor recreation in Southern California. For example, the Iron Mountain Trailhead is just 15 minutes away at Route 67 and Poway Road. Although the trail is rated as moderately difficult, it is ideal for the whole family. The trail is six and a half miles long and it gains 1,000 feet in elevation. The trail is well maintained and offers great views of the valley below.
A more challenging day hike starts at Lake Poway, which is a mere half-hour drive from Lakeside. The trail is both narrow and steep, as it ascends 2,000 feet over a six and a half mile distance. The hike ends at Mount Woodson, with spectacular views of the valley below. An alternate hike along state route 67 can take a party from Poway Lake to Mount Woodson. The minute one travels north throughout scenic Lakeside, the stresses and congestion of the city are left behind. Route 67 curves through some of the remaining undeveloped regions of southern California. Because Lakeside sits at the edge of a great metropolitan area with immediate access to outdoor activities, it is an ideal place to raise a family. Active adults in retirement also call this community home.
